A great night at one of the best small venues in Edinburgh – Electric Circus and Voltage. Matt Wilson was up first and despite being one young man on a stage, he owns it. He really does. His voice is West Coast and although he is indeed from Girvan on the West Coast of Scotland, I’m talking about the US here! He has a kind of non-accented Gram Parsons mixed with Ray LaMontagne thing going on and as he explained, he uses three guitars all tuned differently in order to give his songs a different sound. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed his set and hope to work him more in the future.
Look out for an interview and exclusive backstage session with him coming soon. From a purely visual perspective I just love the almost classic iconography of one man, one guitar and a stage. It’s simple, pared back and totally real.
